The StuH 42 Ausf G Late Production was a German self-propelled howitzer used during World War II.
It was based on the chassis of the Panzer III tank and was designed to provide close support to infantry units.
The StuH 42 was armed with a 10.5 cm Sturmhaubitze 42 L/28 howitzer, which was capable of firing a variety of high-explosive, smoke, and armour-piercing rounds.
The Late Prod variant featured a redesigned gun mantlet and a modified hull that improved crew ergonomics and provided better protection.
The vehicle was powered by a Maybach HL120TRM engine, which gave it a top speed of around 25 mph (40 km/h).
It had a crew of four and was equipped with a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun for self-defence.
The StuH 42 saw extensive service on both the Eastern and Western Fronts and was widely used in the later years of the war.
It was an effective weapon against enemy infantry and fortifications but was vulnerable to attack from enemy tanks.
Despite its limitations, the StuH 42 played an important role in the German Army’s armoured support arsenal during World War II.
