During World War II, Germany developed the Panzerkampfwagen III/IV (PzKpfw III/IV), an experimental medium tank.
In an attempt to unify the two designs, the tank was designed to employ components from both the Panzer III and Panzer IV.
Only the designs were prepared before the project was cancelled, and no units were ever manufactured.
Because the technological structure of the Panzer III and Panzer IV were so similar, a new tank based on the chassis of the two tanks was considered in September 1941 to make a fully homogeneous vehicle.
It was hoped that by using consistent designs, production, supply, training, and maintenance costs would be reduced.
